Paint-l at Rennes le Chateau
While Ellie was off riding a horse in the hills, Suzanne, Pat, Cheryl and Kaye took a trip to the nearby town of Rennes le Chateau. It's a hill town overlooking Espéraza and supposedly has many mysterious events connected with it. Some maintain that Jesus came there, settled down with Mary Magdalen and raised a family, which became the Merovingian line of kings of France. Their descendants are sitting around cafés in Paris waiting for the right time to reclaim the throne.

architecturally interesting buildings in the town.

The town - surprise, surprise - also has a restaurant.

Paint-l at Carcassonne
The whole paint-l crew, plus John - who has been nominated  a honorary paint-l member - went to the medieval walled city of Carcassonne. This city was all but destroyed by the crusades in the 11th century, and rebuilt in the 1800s. It's the best restored walled medieval city in Europe.
The entrance to the city is by way of a bridge over a grassy moat. Carriage rides around the moat and the city are popular.
The narrow streets of the city are home of many shops selling just about anything tourists could want.
